Hello fellow electronics people!

I have to make an animation like the one above, but It now needs to be a dog walking.
I'm not asking you to solve me that though, I would like to understand how the man walks

So this is my plan:

So I use the 555 to cycle between on and off. In the off, I use an inverter(not) so that it is one, this way I can represent 2 frames

This data is sent to a transistor to boost current.

Then I send these to a demultiplexer...somehow? (I don't know how to use one, yet)

Then I somehow use the 8 signals from the demultiplexer to the LED matrix, so that it lights up in the pattern I want?

then I need a counter for some reason? and something about an array diode working as memory? ROM memory?
