2-4 seconds timer light indicator

i need to make a timer circuit with the following
1) timer starts with the press of a foot switch
2)time need to be varied from 2-4 seconds (using a variable pot)
3)LED should indicate the 2-4 seconds time interval

Please pool in ur thoughts about this.. :)

Use a 555 in a monostable configuration. There are plenty of circuits on the 'net that explain this - use one of them.
