All of this being said, if I wanted the lamp to work with the LED I’d rip out the exiting supply and replace it with an LED driver which will probably not cost much more than a high wattage resistor you’d need.

Two suggestions: don't end every sentence with an exclamation point! That will make your writings easier to read! Also keep in mind that this just a science experiment that should be taken apart when you are done because what you are doing is impractal and can be dangerous! Thank you for taking the time to read this!
Dangerous in what way, the lamp will take a max 35W, I am loading it max 10/12 W ! .

Are antique incandescent light bulbs still available? I think my government banned them (maybe because kids burn their fingers on them?) and to save electricity.
A few of my compact fluorescent light bulbs have failed and a few LED bulbs produce an on-off-on flash.

Yes they are banned under a EU regulation, but can still get them quite easily , plenty on ebay .
