I'm running into an issue with one set of lights -- the switch will only handle 5 amps, and I have two 5 amp lights strung together. I want to add a 5-pin SPDT relay, but I can't figure out how to get it wired. Will this work for what I need?



If so, how do I wire it up?

 

Instead of using the Switches to directly Power the LEDs,
use the 3-way Switch setup to control the Coil of a Relay,
then the Contacts of the Relay will supply Power to the 10-Amps worth of LED arrays.

The suggestion from LQC is what makes sense. Any other scheme can result in the relay being constantly powered, resulting in a constant hidden battery drain, which may be inconvenient.

YES!! Something exactly like that!! In industrial jargon that would be described as the switches as providing "pilot duty" for the power control relay.

Make sure the relay is rated for continuous use. Things like HORN relays are not rated for continuous use and would overheat.
