1+1 = 2?

To me it seems like the group advocating 1+1=2 are discussing Natural numbers (or the integers I guess), while the other camp discusses Real-, or perhaps, Irrational numbers.
In some sense.

edit:
What, if any, significance does the proof of 1.99=2 have?

thatoneguy removes his philosopher's hat...

\(0.999\overline{9}=1\)

The airplane will take off from the treadmill.

There is no missing dollar.

Those should answer most of Byron's other clever questions.

It is accepted in mathematics that 1/∞ = 0, however, it is not accepted that 0.∞ = 1.
Also, 1+1 = 2, 1 or 0, the last case perhaps being true of two races of humans...

Or maybe that's 36 452 234 + 143 898 632 = ~100...

They are not saying 1+1is exactly the sme thing but they are saying if you get the units different, then they are totally different but the same.

I think infinity is the worst number for this.
infinity + infinity = infinity or infinity x infinity = infinity infinity+1=infinity. I don't think maths likes the sleeping 8.
