What diode is this?

It's in a TO92 package, right?

I don't see why you couldn't substitute a 1N914 or 1N4148 switching diode. Different package (DO-35), but as long as there's room ... why not?

The only datasheet I could find for a SD50 indicates that diode is in a TO92 package, has a reverse breakdown voltage of 50v, and a maximum average current of 25mA.

The 1N914 and 1N4148 both have a maximum average current of 100mA and reverse breakdown voltage of 100v.
