Why does this annoying survey keep popping up every time I open AAC?

Are you using the Beautiful Blue theme, or the Obnoxious Orange theme?

I'm using the BB theme and have never seen that popup. May or may not be related.

Hello,

In your profile under preferences, there is an item called style.
Here you can choose AAC2 for the orange style , wich is the default style or AAC classic for the blue style, wich looks like the old forum style.

I remember that. Didn't like the new "Orange" style and switched back to the classic Blue. I have a bad habit of resisting change. I like when I know something well and it gets changed - I find it hard to adapt. That's also why I tend to favor old electronic devices even though there are newer and better devices out there. With some - change comes slowly. With others - like me - change is something to be resisted. I never knew Horse & Buggy and have an inane preference for breaker point ignition on my cars. Can't find that anymore. Seems the only thing permanent is change.

Thanks.

OK, when I opened preferences it said I was set to default AAC2. Nevertheless I chose AAC2 but have seen no changes. A bit confusing. I'll mess with the preferences and see what I get. Thanks.

HMMMmmmm. When I changed it to "Classic" things definitely looked strange. I don't remember seeing AAC in that format. So I changed back to AAC2.
[edit] As you can see, I've been a member for 10 years. Has AAC2 been the default since before I joined? Somehow I remember seeing that Classic screen before, and didn't care for it.

AAC2 is the Obnoxious Orange, while Classic is the Beautiful Blue.

I can't stand AAC2. Not only do I find the color scheme hideous, I find the layout very poor and difficult to interact with. I'm sure that I could adapt to it if I had no choice, but fortunately we do have a choice.

I don't remember when they made the change to the "improved" scheme. Copilot claims that it first became available in 2016 and became the default in 2020. The 2016 date sounds reasonable, but the 2020 date is bogus. As usual, LLMs don't really know what they are talking about. A quick search found a thread from April 2016 which clearly shows that the orange theme was default by that time. I subsequently found a discussion from May 2015 where it was being discussed.

The "classic" theme of today is not truly the classic theme of yesteryear. It, too, as "evolved" over time. In particular, I recall some significant changes that happened when we switched from vBulletin to XenForo in the August 2014 time frame. That was when the blogs feature became largely useless (though it wasn't overly great before then).

Eh! Maybe I'll try the other scheme for a bit. See if adaptation is as easy as it should be. And if I can grow accustomed to finding new places to click. For sure on the current theme I'm getting that annoying advertisement; though I haven't' seen it in a few days.

As @boostbuck has commented, I, too, had been harassed by it. But upon looking at @bertus post about going into profile and changing the style, seeing I was already on AAC2, I changed to AAC (Classic) then back to AAC2.

SINCE THEN I haven't seen that annoyance. Maybe - and I don't know this for a fact - but maybe changing to classic then back again to AAC2 MIGHT be the reason why I haven't seen it. I didn't pay attention to how often it would appear but it was fairly frequent. I should have seen it by now but haven't. Maybe that's the trick.

And how did AAC even allow that "Survey" get uploaded into the system? Maybe that has sparked an investigation and it has already been removed. Has anyone seen it in the past few days? Now watch! I'll see it today. Maybe even in the next hour. Sure hope not.

I first reported this pop up survey last Wednesday in this discussion forum under the title "Popups".
Only two responded.
Today I haven't seen the pop up return.
I didn't change anything in style.
So maybe it has been fixed?

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that someone on the EETech side of the house set up the survey. They do that from time to time. Fortunately, not often enough to be a huge deal.

I don't mind this sort of thing happening as long as there's a box to check saying "not interested" or "don't show this again"
