MaxHeadRoom,
Thanks for your response. The circuit board gives a reading light and a USB phone charger power. If you can work with me, I'd appreciate a pvt mes.

BobTPH,
I am a non-tech who joined this forum for help. I have an idea for a unique reading lamp with a mini circuit board to operate the light in a certain way. I need a sketch for PCB. If you can do that, I can upload a photo of a sample board

There is no “going rate.”

Go to “fiverr.com.”. You will find someone who will do it for $5. But you might not like the result.

When you contract for a design you MUST have extremely clear specifications and acceptance criteria. I would not even consider bidding without that. But then, I would be unlikely to consider any project that didn’t make me a six figure return in s matter of months.

I am not here looking for a handout. Why you suggested Fvrr for $5. If you cannot do it for a reasonable price; have a good day
I suggested that because I really doubt that you would pay what the kind of people on this forum could and should ask.

What do you think is a reasonable amount? Most people who come here looking for a contractor have totally unrealistic expectations. I actually can not recall any such offer getting to a deal, but, of course, that might have happened outside the forum.

The above pieces literally fit your one-sentence description. Add a switch to turn the lamp on and off, and it's done.

At a minimum, the following details are needed:

– The power source
– The current draw of the 12 volt lamp
– USB charger expectations
– What "operation in a certain way" means
– Size requirements for the PCB
– Other pertinent details

Nobody can guess at what you desire without the details. Maybe it's something simple like I described above, and the circuit board only exists to connect the parts.

But "operates in a certain way" suggests a microcontroller might be needed. The complexity just increased significantly, and there's a need to write firmware. And are you planning to assemble the circuit board, or are you expecting that to be done?

So the following steps are required once all the details are discussed and a design is agreed to:

– Draw a schematic of the circuit, including specifying EXACT components to be used.

– Lay out a circuit board

– Prepare the necessary files for circuit board fabrication (and additional files if you want the board professionally assembled) and order boards

– Order components if you expect the person who designed the board to assemble it for you

– Assemble the board if not contracted out.

– Write firmware if a microcontroller is used.

– Listen to whining when some detail you overlooked creates problems.

All of these steps take time. Measured in hours rather than minutes. I'm not sure what you think the "going rate" is, but I expect your belief to be rather low. And a discount because you joined a forum? Ha.

All that being said, there may be simple off-the-shelf ways to do what you want. People here might be happy to offer some guidance if you explained what you're trying to do.
