What I'm saying, BillO, is that if anyone is dragging this thread towards the religious side of things, it's you. The simple question "do you believe in ghosts" in no way questions the credibility (or lack there-of, depending on your point of view) of any religions. This is NOT a religious thread, or at least it wasn't until you started posting comments about religions.

I'm going pull some of your first comments D8, it involved investigations, using electronic measuring devices and recording equipment, to establish some sort of contact or to locate any such possible evidence.

I find the subject in the Title "Who Believes in Ghost" I'm curious now as to wether their is such a cult that worships an Actual Ghost?

If so, I guess this could get construed.

DerStrom8, thanks. You nailed it. Except one thing, I am not talking about religion at all. I am talking about the discussion of religion and where we draw the line as to what is and what is not a discussion of religion.

This is allowed in your mind, because you choose to see it as allowed.

Then I take that discussion of spirits is okay, as long as it's not a specific spirit. right?

Ahh, I see what you mean. I misunderstood what you were saying. Yes, I think that's correct--as long as we don't narrow it down to a specific spirit that anyone worships, I think we're ok.

That didn't take long at all. The first google hit I got was "Holy Ghost" in Christianity and is considered a deity.
Yes indeed. However, we are not talking about the "Holy Ghost", so this thread should still be allowed :p

Sort of, but have a look here. Do you think a person holding these beliefs might be a little offended by the questioning of the existence of ghosts and spirits and the making off-handed remarks about them?

Now don't get me wrong at all. I think this thread is perfectly fine, just that it seems to be allowed as the result of 'double standard' thinking.

I'm not quite as fine with that. And, I'll leave it a that.

That is interesting, but I'm not sure it's the same as arguing against a worshiped deity. Spiritualists believe that the dead reside among the living. That does not mean they are worshiped or serve as deities. I do see your point, however, and I'm sure if the moderation staff receives a complaint they'll let us know. Right now I'm only asking for opinions, not a debate about whether or not ghosts exist. We'll see what happens. In the mean time, can we get on with the main discussion?;)

If they did they wouldn't want to tell you on this forum. I think the minute it becomes Didactic it should be considered a problem, I don't see the Science vs Religion thing here on the site as a problem. Unless your implying it becomes Didactic? I've just never seen it.

Some would take any mention not in line with doctrine as teaching against it, but I don't think it even needs to go that far to offend some. Really though, if a belief cannot stand up to frank, or even casual discussion, that is the choice of the believer. They need not listen.

This started as a festive discussion on fairytales and customs. It ended on guys nitpicking each other's words on matters that aren't really of interest to anyone and hardly offensive on most of the members involved.

I'm really sorry about this.

So am I, I was enjoying this discussion. Dictating beliefs of other people because you believe that way is fairly intolerant. It is not a given that belief in spirits or paranormal events means you have specific religious beliefs.

In any case, this thread remains closed.

Edit: It sounds as if everyone is angry here, we're not. This thread was actually past its prime. I consider Bill O a friend, and after a PM or two we're good.

Hi Bill,

The site seemed to be down for a while.

I guess I just want to say:

"Sorry everyone for sending this into a tailspin. It was not my intent and the more I tried to explain, the worse it seemed to get. Please accept my apology."
No problems on my end, I think of Bill as a friend.
