I'm Crystal and I am an electronics technician. I am also going to school for electronics engineering and hope to be an engineer in ~3 years. I came across this site when I googled a question I had about microwaves and radar (since I am studying for the FCC GROL Elements 1, 3, & 8) and I am happy to have found it.

 

What book or study glide are you using ,, just get a good study glide with most all of the Q & A and read and get so you pass the sample test close to 90 % and ur do find, I took all goes when I was in High School for 2nd class radio tele.. and about 10 yrs ago i took GSMDD test for CG Radio Op Lic.. Also a Ham lic. in High School too. Tech.

I am a semi retired Aeronautical/Defence Industry Engineer with a few tech projects.. I think it is vital to counter and correct misinformation and ignorance so I like the concept of this site. Just as math is the scaffold upon which physics works so I have come to appreciate electronics is the modern basis of most technology especially in terms of communication, measurement and control. My definition of science.. Ask Questions, Think Critically, Tell the Truth. Thanks to all.

Hello all. I am a Clinical Lab Scientist trying to change directions in my career, so now I'm 42 years old and back in school for a degree in EET. I want to be a Field Service Engineer for a major medical device company when I grow up.

 

Hi I'm Dave, specialize in microscopy but have been fixing TV's etc. for thirty five years (yes I remember all the valve numbers, and when most resistors were 20% tolerance! Started building a power supply for my main microscope in a 17 inch case (could have used a 317 in a 4" box) then realized "why don't I build an all singing, all dancing PSU. Have got to 30v at 30 amps so far just using junk.)) I use current limiting with a simple current sense resistor in line with the output from the first bridge rectifier. A 0.01R resistor 10W I think. then I used a 741 as a difference amp with an old pot in the appropriate place (use your imagination, and use two pots for fine limiting) this switches on a tranny to fight the output of the other 741 (after a 420R resistor) which drives the main output transistors (10 MJ2955's in parallel current ballasted with 0.2R's and driven by 1 tip135) darlingtom PNP. with this I can recharge a watch battery, or start the car when the battery is flat. not made a drawing yet, well not that anyone else would understand, but when I do, I will post it. Ripple at full bore is about 0.5 mv and I cant measure V REG with my gear which makes it less than 0.01 mv. No kidding, and it's a really simple circuit. So there is still room in my 17" case (think I might put a home cinema surround sound system in there LOL!

and don't worry. Field service is mostly about putting it back the way it was designed to work, especially on medical stuff. It isn't magical, just meticulous.
