Never formally introduced myself.
Was born in Ireland and moved to Accra, Ghana, West Africa when I was 6. Moved to the Las Palmas, Grand Canary when I was 9 and back to Kumasi, Ghana when I was 10 and then to Mississauga, Ontario, Canada when I was almost 13. I now reside in Muskoka, Ontario where I have a huge house and 83 acres of land.
I originally went to university to study theology, which I did for nearly 2 years. Reading all the sacred texts convinced me God did not exist and that religion was created as a form of control over the (* deleted adjective *) masses. Was told by the department that my ideas and questions were not welcome and that I would never graduate. They offered to pay for 2 years of university in any other discipline if I left theology without a fight. So, I went on to pursue degrees in physics, mathematics and philosophy (logic).
I worked in academia for a while, but found I had a talent for confusing students and I was not enjoying it. Went back to school and picked up some courses in electronics and became an electronics technologist. Had always intended to become an accredited engineer, but my career got in the way. I first worked as an electronics technologist in the post-production side of the movie business. After about 5 years of that I went into communications, which eventually lead to the computer business. My last stint in that was 13 years at a large (at one time 3rd largest) US based, multi-national software company. My last position was Canadian VP of support. I was retired early in October of this year due to cut-backs. Now I just annoy my wife.
I am married and have 2 kids in university, one in last year and one in 2nd year. As I said, I am currently unemployed. My last employer gave me a decent package, so Im in the process of re-inventing my self. Well see where that goes.
My hobbies, in order of interest are: Off-road motorcycling, electronics and playing trombone. My current area of interest in electronics is building little computers using early 8-bit technology (6502, 6800, 1802, etc ). Recently my son has challenged me to build a fuzz box for his guitar that emulates the sound of overdriving a tube pre-amp. Its turning out to be harder than I had first imagined.
Edit: Forgot to mention. Sometimes I study, write about, and photograph nature. I'ts been a while though...

Hello everyone I just joined this forum , I have a bachelor degree in Physics and electronics is one of my interests

I'm from Indiana, I'm a junior in High school, and obviously I'm interested in electronics.
Specifically within electronics I'm interested in Nixie tubes, neon, RC vehicles, and Tesla in general
Other interests include backpacking and mountain climbing
The pics are from New Mexico, I'm going back this summer for a full 21 days in the mountains. Ive also done some hiking in the white mountains, hit all the presidentials.
With the cars, in 8th grade i built a 5*7*12" rc car that had to climb 18 inches up a vertical wall, climb a rope, climb stairs, jump a 6 inch gap, and cross a 2' 34" beam
9th grade i worked on one that had an electromagnetic arm and worked in cooperation with another vehicle we built that was driven by a team member but the team member couldn't touch anything but the controls on the vehicle.
That year we got first in the global competition for the program Destination Imagination.
Last year i just built one with flashy lights and that had remotely triggered sounds, looked awesome though

I have since a very early age just like to tear stuff apart, figure out what was "under the hood". At ten years old I had hundreds of radios, tv's, and assorted goodies laying in ruins {smoldering ruins usually} around me. A few singed eyebrows later I made it offical and got my CET, though I am not officaly in the field, at present. I am known as the fix-it-go-to-guy, mechanical, electric, electrical\mechanical "the jerry rig king"....

Hi. I've been lurking for awhile. Thought I'd register and introduce myself. My name's drew and I'm going through electronics technician training in the navy reserves right now. I've been a network administrator for the last several years, and I have degrees in philosophy and religion. I don't really understand a lot of what you guys are talking about yet, but I hope that within the next year or so I'll be up to speed.
When I complete my navy training I'd like to go work for an observatory and fix radio telescopes and/or be their IT guy. That sounds about as close to a dream job as I can get.

Ain't that the truth. My degree in philosophy made me unemployed and my degree in religion made me an atheist.
I'm pretty close to completing a degree in computer information systems with a software emphasis. So what do I do when I'm almost done?? I join the navy reserves to study electronics and hardware!! It seems I do the opposite of everything that comes to mind.

You should get along with another member here. He also studdied and taught religion..and after he couldn't swallow it anymore, he became atheist.
I'm still interested in religion, but from a secular perspective. I'm not particularly religious, but studying it helped me recognize that people are religious for all sorts of cultural, social, and emotional reasons, and it's arrogant and presumptuous of me to criticize someone's way of life. Intellectually, I can dispute the truth claims of a religion, but religion's are much more than just truth claims.
Anyways, thinking about that feels like a different world right now. I just finished learning about Kirchoff's voltage and current laws, bridge circuits and voltage dividers today.
