I'm a Physics student, doing 2nd year university papers but it's been a long time since I did my first year so very, very rusty. Hoping to knock that rust off and really get my head around linear steady state network theory and transistor electronics in particular.

I'm a ham radio operator and electronics hobbyist. I started learning electronics when vacuum tubes were around and transistors were just starting to emerge. Everything was discrete components then. No EE degree but want to learn more about newer electronics and testing for component failure in many forms. I always enjoy troubleshooting computers, radios, test equipment, etc. Glad I found this website.

My name is Teejay Riedl (Screen name “Dibubba”). I registered here on AAC on May 15, 2015, after “lurking” for several months.

30-odd years ago, high-school days, I was pretty stout in electronics. Somewhere between then and last fall, “life happened”, and I have just-recently picked up the hobby again: after moving to the Chicago area last summer, I have room in the basement for a lab, in addition to my recording studio. All the projects I have dreamed about over the past 3 decades, I now have the “facility” – if not the “acumen” – to build.

That’s proving something of a challenge! My Ethos is ‘discrete analog ‘. I’m aware of PICs and Arduino, and etc. – but I spend all week at work over a computer, and by-crackey I want to do my electronics “Old SKool” (just like Oter500, above me!!)! So, in today’s world, “assume I know nothing”, and you’ll be close to the mark.

Because many (not all) of my projects involve my recording studio, my builds generally need to fit into a 19” rack mount – so while I’m re-learning electronics, I also need to learn metal-working.

This is so much fun!

Hi. I'm a PhD chemist, semi-retired. I'm interested in one of your "bad" topics, and I think I understand why you don't want them here. There is a very broad level of understanding about the basic physics, when talking about the alternate energy topics, and all sorts of weird info. Nevertheless, there is need for REAL knowledge about how to build and control any devices one might be working with. I'be come here this before. I'll post the other stuff in other forums. While the Internet allows for all manner of questions to be considered, I find wading through most forums very tedious because of their limited management by moderators. With many different understanding levels it's difficult to know when to edit what some said, or what the discussion concluded, to phrase it concisely for subsequent participants. Moderated journals are nice, but on the edgy science you don't want to be stifled by unknown connections the editors may have with entrenched interests. I think this is a shame. Anyway, I think I can be behaved, and deal with Real Circuits, and microcontroller control issues here.

I'm a wandering hobbiest who started in woodworking that led to an interest in a cnc router that led to volunteering at a computer recycling place to learn that led to collecting old electronics machines and taking them to build my own cnc machine. My understanding is probably on a high school level level but my curiosity is on a professional level. I have built a cnc router from scratch and started 4 other machines from recycled materials. I love recycling because it's cheap and I don't have to worry about burning stuff up or breaking things. I have ambition to use cnc to laser burn wood, fabricate PCB's, and 3d print plastics.
