I heard a story once about a large freighter in the Gulf of Mexico. It was hauling a large shipment of mayonnaise to a port in Tamaulipas, Mexico, but it never quite made it. It still hasn't been determined for sure what caused it, but the ship's hull was breached, presumably by a reef, and the whole ship went down. To this day they refer to it as Sinko da Mayo.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico

I'm a largely out of work aging tree surgeon, stay at home mumdad (or is that dadmum) - whose electrons have been restimulated to flow in any direction my errant zygotes demand. I find solace in trying to find out how intelligent I may be(come) because the wife has no interest in my hobby (sobs). After a jolly good squashing in the road I'm a little wealthier so I can live without my hand in my mouth leaving my pudgy work hardened fingers free to struggle with the ridiculously fiddly art of electronics. As an academic I'm a failure - dropped out of maths degree and went back to grafting hard. Recently built an guitar amp kit, preamp (waited 20 years to do that one!) and have surprised myself by spotting mistakes in electronics textbooks. Felt like I needed some smarter friends so joined AAC. Loving the online textbook....with questions! Fairly sure the future will all fall into place but in the meantime am exploring slight madness with a few whack ideas and 60/40 solder. Fixed a few things, hacked a few things and definitely got the bug. The annoying kids toys are no longer safe..........Looking forward to freaking out the Completed Projects forum in the near future. Lofty ideas, some skills. No shame.

Just a dumb question ... if a tree surgeon works on a sapling ... is he then a pediatric tree surgeon ?

The name is Al , not Pat.

Born in Lambeth , London .

Lived in Three Bridges , West Sussex .

Electric Al - I never would have guessed ur real name.......Off the wall humour, dodgy play on words and cringing puns are a delicious speciality for me-. Well met! Cornwall here out of Plymouth but I have been further afield once or twice!
I'm no visionary, I checked out ur profile and used your own descriptor. Pat on the back for me!

If a German person used to be in the Army, is he a veteran-Arian?

Warning: This joke only works in English because it is a word play joke.

He may be a veteran Aryan though. It does work in English. God save the Queen right #12?

All electronically interested Tree Inspectors are now Pat-ting me on the back for correcting your Neo Latin. Its a mental scar I'm happy to have shared this once. (Payback gratefully received)

Greetings, totally new to electronics but I did have one of the radio shack ones as a kid where you learned things. I remember playing with that a lot till I got a Radio Shack Color Computer II.

From there is was all programming and has been for 31 years now. Got a computer programming job straight out of Highschool in 1992 so been in that biz for 22 years.

Have had some projects in mind for model railroad trains and then this past July I decided it sure would be nice if I had a way to sit in a chair and light all these fireworks.

I decided it's time to learn electronics and then will later combine my programming knowledge with it.

Found this site via Google and have had some great people help me a long with my first project which is a fireworks launching control board.

Ha! I had both the RS electronics lab AND the COCOII. Both would keep me entertained for hours. Welcome to AAC.

Meow!

Probably just gonna lurk, but I'd figured I'd at least sign up and say hi. When I was little, I had some of those springloaded 30-in-1 circuit type things, and my dad taught me how to read schematics. Though I didn't learn most of the theory, I used to be able to build little 555 blinkenlight circuits and such. Somewhere along the line, I got more into computers, and wound up being a sysadmin and programmer for awhile. Now I'm 30, I'm taking a break from tech to go back to school, and I decided it'd be fun to start building circuits again. I really enjoy audio and electronic music, so I want to build horrible monstrosities that make crazy noises.

It's nice to meet all of you!

Hello to everyone. I'm interested in knowing more about electronics. I am a controls technician and have been fixing building circuit boards for over 7 years.

Hey everyone! I'm a 3rd yr engineering undergrad trying to get out of the theory and into the fun practical bit!

Electronics and software are my main areas of interest, with a strong lean currently towards audio stuff. There's only so much window-shopping one can do in the local audiophile hi-fi shop ;)
I also got an Arduino Due a couple of months ago, which I am thoroughly enjoying. I've certainly got the bug now.

My personal projects so far are a pair of bookshelf speakers, and an almost-complete 8x8x8 rgb led cube.
Planned for the future is a set of hifi amplifiers, valve preamp, and then a solid state power amp (probably gainclone)
