What do you think of Virtual Reality?

I think VR will become more and more mainstream over the next few years, both for business and entertainment. From training to education to gaming, VR has huge potential to be advantageous to many, but it has a few hurdles to overcome first (cost, form, tech specs to name a few!)

Which is why we need to be cautious, even internet is full of unwanted stuff but we still outweigh the pros over cons.
A lot of talks about addiction and side effects is because the tech is new and people are too fascinated with it. All this will settle down soon and VR will remain mostly where its needed most.
There are far more better uses for VR than just a bunch of people getting high on immersive gaming/media etc.

Not so far in the future, your doctor might prescribe playing few games in VR to ease aches and pains, rather than popping a pill.

It is a good temporary option. That makes you fully VR bound and dependant. On pain killers at least you can do other things, like feed yourself.

p.s learn to meditate and control your breathing rate, amazing what that does for pain and anxiety. But I forgot, that is too much effort...

Haha. Yeah. That's a good option but personally I prefer to hit the gym. Not that I never tried but I just can't. Maybe I am too hyperactive.

Anyways, coming to VR, I think it would mostly be recommended as an alternate and not a regular sedative option. Maybe in special cases where sedatives could be fatal or patient's are allergic to the salts. What do you think?

Seeing how I work in healthcare... On the equipment side... Yes I do agree that it may work in some cases as a good alternative to medication that fails. However I see even more potential for patient abuse with VR than with conventional treatment so there is that... The issue is that very few people realize that we are not even in control of our own brain as it is

I just got my Oculus Rift powered up a few days ago. Things have improved dramatically since the DK2 several years ago. And I did get seriously nauseated after a while. Turns out jet pack flying around in zero gravity is harder than you might imagine.

Magic Leap laid off a “number of employees” this morning and announced they were backing away from their consumer ambitions to focus more heavily on selling to enterprise customers.

Bloomberg reports that half of Magic Leap’s employees were laid off, roughly 1,000 in total. Magic Leap was in the process of exploring a sale, Bloomberg had also reported, one that could value the company at $10 billion. Magic Leap is one of the most well-capitalized consumer hardware startups ever, having raised more than $2.6 billion from investors, including Google, Alibaba and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Into the crash part of the "Hype Cycle".
