Nonsense. Why would adding water to something that is already 57% water improve its taste? (assuming 86 proof)

There is no alcoholic drink that tastes better to me when diluted.

It's an interesting problem ... perhaps freshly poured water (as opposed to water already holding a solution) helps to liberate aroma.

Some bourbons are bottled at "cask strength" and this can be quite high proof. Any proof over 90 or so will taste better to most people if diluted down a little. Standardized bourbons are blended down to 80-86 proof and don't need any water for most tastes. Personally I would NEVER add water to my bourbon but I generally do like plenty of ice if I'm not taste-test sipping.

To my taste, the cask strength ones are the best (undiluted.) I have bought Booker’s cask strength, a great bourbon from the same people that bring you quite ordinary Jim Beam.

Or perhaps the delusion is similar to those of audiophiles. The bartender claimed you only need to add two drops of water to a shot. I doubt anyone could pass a blind taste test.
Actually, I’ve had this discussion many times with family and friends. I assure you that I usually pass a blind taste test (with any decent bourbon). But I doubt two drops is sufficient. I prefer a bourbon’s ball. The effect in some bourbons is more pronounced than others. Try it with Woodford Reserve Double Oaked and tell me you can’t taste the difference.

I absolutely could tell the difference if enough water is added. That doesn’t mean I prefer the diluted one.

Audiophools can tell the difference between tube and transistor amplifiers too (due to the added noise and lower bandwidth). Popular electronics actually test that. After adding hum, distortion, and filtering to the transistor one, they lost that ability.

What makes bourbon distinct from other whiskeys is the way it is manufactured and aged. All whiskey is spirit made from fermented grain and then aged in barrels. But the kind of grain and the kind of barrels determines the variety of whiskey. Per the American Bourbon Association, in order to be classified as bourbon, a whiskey needs to be distilled from a mixture of grains, or mash, that's at least 51% corn. That corn gives bourbon its distinctive sweet flavor.
In addition New Charred Oak Barrels for at least 2 years, they did mention dilution after reaching 160 proof.

When bourbon is barreled, it also has to hit a certain proof or alcohol content in the spirit. The mash must be distilled at 160 proof (or 80% alcohol by volume) or less, and aged in barrels until it is no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume) or less. Before bottling, bourbon is filtered and diluted down to no less than 80 proof (40% alcohol by volume). Other whiskeys have different ABV standards for barreling and distilling. The minimum bottling strength for Scotch whiskey, for example, is also 80 proof or 40% ABV, but there is no maximum or minimum ABV for the distillate.

I may have mentioned this before, but if you do go to Scotland and order a scotch at the bar, they may not know what you mean, in many parts it is only known as Whiskey!
By the way, do not ask anyone if he his Scotch, there is no such race!
He may be Scottish though! :p

Bar Rescue season 6 episode 39, they made a Blue Margarita, Blue Curacao, Agave Syrup, Organic Black lava salt.

Ingredients
1x2x3x
  • 2 ounces* tequila reposado (or substitute tequila blanco)*
  • 1 ounce blue curacao
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • Kosher salt or flaky sea salt, for the rim
  • Ice, for serving (try clear ice)
  • For the garnish: Lime wedge

Just beginning to build my Bar stock.

I had 1800 Tequila, their recommendation called for a different one, the drink didn’t have the orange flavor, I thought it would since it shows oranges on the label.

I also didn’t have the agave surup and lava salt, going to give that a try when my amazon order comes. Saving judgement until then, I had to stop drinking them after my 3rd round, the flavor started growing to something I’m not sure what I was drinking flavor, what ever it was not favorable, I would prefer a real margarita otherwise.

A one off is ok.
