I am intending on using this particular audio amplifier design using a 30vct transformer which i believe is well within it's limits, however, I am curious as to what the possible limits are. Adequate heat-sinking assumed, could I use a transformer with dual 24 secondaries? What would be the first part to cause trouble?

You need to check if Vce_max for all the transistor is larger than 2Vcc.

 

Note that the DC output voltage of a rectified AC voltage is near 1.4 times the AC RMS value.

 

Either take a look at the manufacturers spec sheet, or connect it to a variable psu, wind the voltage up until something goes pop and you will have found the answer to your question!
