DTMF decoders are a central part of how telephone systems work. Any time you call someone and it says, "Press 1 for this or that," It is using a DTMF decoder to determine if you pressed a 1 or not.

I don't buy from these places, so I'm not attuned to looking at the shipping. Of course, that means that I would be somewhat susceptible to getting taken in by these thieves. And that is a good description of them.

You have to look no further than all the internet malware/ransomware around, to see that the dishonesty of humans has very few boundaries if they can evade the law.

I once read that if you connect an unprotected computer to the internet it will be infected with some form of malware withing a few minutes.

Very likely. A colleague of mine from the Academy set up his home network, which was way, way overkill, but then network security was his thing, and he said he was being port-scanned within fifteen seconds of plugging in the modem.

 

A chinese relay board that controls defrost in my 16 year old refrigerator... Now is a microcontroller with a weird relay on it. Its coil measuring 2580 Ohm...(?) Doubt it is healthy.

This used to be a motor with a cam switch to cycle cooling/defrosting. Redesigned the $100 refrigerator to avoid the cost of the motor now with a microcontroller that fails at any mains spike (NO regulated power supply for it; just diodes and resistors from mains CR1, CR2, R1, R5, C2) and make$ them collect double the price of a refrigerator for replacing the part.
Am sick of this sheet, that relay is proprietary on purpose so you cannot fix the unit by just replacing it, with unobtaniun schematic. Add labor to it if you want a complete ripoff picture of repairing a modern refrigerator.
