Nah ... that's not my dog ... it's just a meme that someone I know posted a few moments ago. I thought it was so funny as to being worthy of being posted here...

So on a pet related note. I was reading a few days ago how many dogs are adopted from various humane society locations and returned within a few days. The main problem seems to be house training. People need to understand these animals have been living in a crate or cage with little outdoor time. Those adopting a puppy need to understand it takes time and plenty of patience to get a dog potty trained. My wife Kathy and I have always had two dogs. She had a dog when we met, as did I. We have observed when a new dog comes along they often learn from the dog we have at the time. Anyway, adopting a dog and giving up in a few days is really pretty unfair to the dog. Plan the time and patience involved and give the new dog a chance. Reward the dog when it does well. Pilgrim and Charlotte wanted me to get this out not so much to those reading and posting here but to friends and family considering a pet adoption.

Every so often I come back here when I need a good laugh, it seems 25m others think the same way.

 

So I get these emails from AKC for Charlotte. Charlotte is our Golden Retriever and Pilgrim our we haven't much of a clue. The email that came today was interesting. Both dogs have home again chips but now I see where I can buy a Fi Smart Collar. I can use my smart phone to know where my dog(s) are. Go figure? They mention 3 months on a single charge and the collar looks to be average large breed collar size. One look at your smart phone and you know where your dog or about any pet actually is. No clue as to cost or subscription cost but thought it was amusing. I know a few woman who would like one for their husbands.

Seriously i got lost one time driving around in the New Brunswick area in New Jersey. Although i had been there many many times in the past, it was about 10 years ago or more since i was last there and they changed so many roads it was like i was in a new state or something. I drove around for a while then found a familiar road.
The good point though is that my car OBDII monitors got "ready" for inspection due to the long drive with traffic lights and such.

Friend in Los Angeles still didnt find a home for the larger dog so i dont know how she expects her daughter to ever come and live with her again. The daughter does not want the dog in the house with the new baby and i cant say i blame her even though the dog seems good around people. The risk is enormous. Even with the smaller dog we had to be very careful not to allow the bigger dog to get in contact with the smaller dog because it would attack it again. That meant always keeping the two dogs in separate rooms. That was a huge pain in the back side. Making sure doors were shut at all times, etc. Doesnt seem too hard to do but day in and day out it's not fun at all.

I've mentioned a few times the kitties in my avatar are my real own kitties. Buster (aka Butter aka Butter butt) lower left and Dave (aka Davey Dave aka Dah Dah) upper right were picked fresh in the field under a bush outside where I was working some 12 years ago. Dirty, crying, alone, and hungry they needed rescue so I snatched them up.

Here is my Dah Dah two years ago, from when I did a weekly Caturday post for friends on another platform:



While I love this picture of him I could never catch a close up as when he would sit on my chest each night for pets. Loved his chin and head rubbed and responded with just a look of pure joy. I never captured that look in a picture, nor the blackness of his eyes, not evil, something open and accepting in that look.

The end of August he took ill one night. I held him next to me and got him to our vet the next morning but he soon passed on. I did have time to say my goodby when I left him, though I was sorry he passed alone. I burried him next to my house, next to the first kitty I lost.

He was a very special kitty.

Let us welcome Cleopatra Martínez into the family :

She was a little ugly and stinky (at first), but extraordinarily tender a sweet...

We got her from a friend that rescued her from the street, only two months old apparently. She badly needed a bath, which we duly gave her. And immediately took her to the vet, who gave her her shots and all of the hygienic procedures that she so badly needed.

She's very toyful and loves warm hugs and the company of people. She is going to have have a long and caring life with us, hopefully.

We had a muted tortoiseshell cat for 18 years. A neighbor's cat had her and her siblings in our store room. We gave them to the neighbors, but she followed her mom back to our yard and stayed. Our neighbors knew that and asked us to adopt her, and we did.

She was an outdoor cat most of her life because one of her offspring, that we also adopted, would fight with her. She slept in our garage most nights, usually on the hood of my BMW. She spent her last couple years as an indoor cat.

 

What Cleopatra needed was a warm loving family and now she has one. I wasn't aware that Digi-Key had a pet adoption line. She does look just plain content.
