I was thinking this should be under the SCIENCE subthread but it is full of comical tid bits.

Wait, what is in the mine? And what is the name of the city?
in a former gold mine in Lead, South Dakota.
Looking for DARK matter with a project named, what?
The mine project, called Large Underground Xenon experiment or LUX.
This is like a bunny rabbit not being able to find any "prey". If anyone besides a physicist finds a physicist and they are successful.
Not finding WIMPS may drive physicists to think about new candidates.

Fear-mongering always sells...
What's funny is that around 2040, machine intelligence is supposed to exceed that of humans. I could imagine Douglas Adam's take on this:

The machine becomes conscious. It asks itself, "What am I? Why am I here? What is the purpose of life?".

Then, *pop*, all circuit breakers on Earth trip simultaneously taking the new form of life with them.

All jokes aside, we are having productive farm land flooded to generate more power. Last time I heard, people still need to eat and the population growth is not slowing down despite famine and war...

So a father tells son to take greater interest in science and gives him money for annual science lollapalooza.
When boy is back home he proudly shows father his purchases and proclaims that he only spent $50!

Here's what he bought:
500 grams of lithium hydroxide
2kg of sodium hydroxide
1kg potassium hydroxide
300 grams of rubidium hydroxide
50 grams of cesium hydroxide
A modicum francium hydroxide (which is a neat trick;)!)

Then father says "Son! I expected you to buy something worthy of a science student but instead you've presented me with a cheap pack of lyes!":D

Plz don't feel bad if you don't get it cuz even HP says it's basically lame and she has stranger sense of humor than me:oops::p!

$50 is quite a Good bargain for that mix from a laboratory chemical supplier.
