TRUE STORY (As told me by my father)
One afternoon He and his best friend went to the beach. At the beach they spent all their money, so they had to ride the trolly home. The beach was, if memory serves, Cony Island. On their way back, walking along the trolly track they found a sack of money. Back then when you found something like that you kept it. They went to see a movie, stopped for ice cream and rode the trolly the rest of the way home.
In the sack was 15 pennies. Can you guess what year that was?
Buster Keaton, in a movie went through a Time Machine into the future. There in the butchers window he saw a sign for steak, 17¢ per pound. The cost of living is relative. Remember when gasoline was 27¢ per gallon? I bet some of you may remember even lower. That's the lowest I can recall.

You are clearly fake. It was 27.9, I remember.
Outrageous prices.
I pumped gas as a kid and washed car windows for tips. This was the going price in Texas.
Semantics. You know they throw in that 9/10ths of a penny because most people don't even look at it. Guess I'm one of the suckers who look and say "OOHhhh. $2.99" when it's actually 1/10th of a penny less than $3.00.
I wish I did have pictures. I had the jacket (but it was a shift jacket)You don't look like a kid there.

Ah! Pluto.
They came up with a definition of what constitutes a planet.
1) It must be in orbit around the sun
2) It must be big enough to form itself into a sphere (relatively speaking)
3) It must have swept up nearly all the debris in its orbit
#3 is where Pluto fails the definition. But due to the love of the ninth planet, they restored Pluto to it's planetary designation.
Pluto has rings.
What remains a concern for earth is the orbital debris that orbits close to the sun. We can't see it in the day time and at night it's never far away enough from the sun to pass on the dark side of earth. There could be a killer out there with our names on it.
People are worried about climate change, and rightfully so in my opinion. But what a lot of people are just beginning to understand is the water cycle. There's going to be a lot of deserts and swamps. Water is shifting around and wars over water, never mind oil, are going to be the new thing. Humanity, again, my opinion, has to face a water shortage that could seriously deplete the human population. Along with many other species of animals and plants. But this is what earth does. It tries an experiment, then moves on. Over 95% of every species that has ever lived on earth has gone extinct. You don't really think we're going to be here a couple hundred years from now, do you? Well, maybe small outcroppings of humanity, but nothing like what we've know.
So much for the jokes thread. Nobody's laughing.
