Just imagine an individual so rich that they could lose TWO BILLION DOLLARS in a day and it not affect their life style one bit. Something is not right there.

 

So I went back and read post #1, and thought about it for a bit. I have never quit a job unless I already was hired by another organization. Of course, except for the last instance, it was dis-satisfaction that prompted looking for a better job. The last time it was a company waving so much money at me that it really got my attention.

 

If you only ever see your job as a job, you'll only just have a job.

If you do what you love, you'll never have to have a job.

 

Most jobs seem to look good at the interview, at least they look good to me. I do know a couple of folks who seem to think that if it requires actual skill and effort that a job is not for them. And one guy wants very top pay for work that a well trained chimp could do.

While I agree, I also believe that nearly everyone has their price -- and I know I'm no exception. Pay me enough, and I will do the most boring, disgusting, unsatisfying job you can think of. However, my definition of "enough" is going to be based on what it allows me to do after doing that job for a limited time. I'm not willing to do a job like that for years and years, no matter how much the pay -- but a few months or a year or two would be a definite possibility if the price is high enough.

 

Pay me enough, and I will do the most boring, disgusting, unsatisfying job you can think of.

Edit: my first job out of college I took for the money. 11 months later I decided I'd only do what I loved from then on. Never looked back.

Possibly. Depends on the target. Might be nice to get paid serious money instead of not even always qualifying for hazardous duty pay.

One billion to take out a cartel biq wig? Definitely under consideration. A hundred billion to take out a teenage girl because she's the daughter of a cartel big wig, not even close to enough.

Nope. For enough money, I have no doubt that I'd be willing to do a lot of illegal things. The key is that I'm the one that gets to decide how much is enough to get me to do any particular job -- and for some jobs they haven't printed enough money in all of history. Want me to jump into an active volcano? See above.

Money is important but failure can be life changing for all involved. Nobody cared about the money, only the mission. Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda.

" If it's the pay that matters most, you're doing it wrong." Certainly that is correct!! And I have worked with those folks who "Do Engineering to Make a Good Living", and some of them did. Others of us ARE engineers and we get that job because it is what we do best. One fun company , at one successful point, explained that they could not give me a raise because of the rules. BUT, they stated, we will give you a car allowance. I did not argue about that.
And the prize for the most dangerous job goes to the one who is chosen to recover all of the unexploded ordinance, to keep it out of the wrong hands.
