Agree that it's not likely worth repairing if it's much more than a bad connector or battery. They're obsolete after a couple of years.

The only one who can tell you is the person who you will pay to repair it. There are legitimate board level repair services for tablet devices. If the tablet is of the cheap variety, it is unlikely you will find the cost of repair is economical. If it is a premium product, and the damage is not extensive (e.g.: contained water damage, bad battery, cracked screen) then a legitimate service (generally not a franchise fixit place) can make repair a winning proposition.

Check out the iPad Rehab channel on YouTube, and seek out a legitimate repair shop in your city.
