I would have thought -u(t-1) should be there to negate u(t) after t=1?
No, the step is not negated, this is why the ramp at t=1 starts at a level of 1 (it gets added on top of the step function)
In your solution the function would be dropped back to 0 at t=1, which would mean the ramp would start at 0 at t=1 and rise to 1 at t=2.
