I want to ask if the pin named (C) is used with the negative pin (-) for charging and (+) and (-) for operation. Is this so? If not what is going on with the battery pins?

 

I think there will be a thermistor connected to C so that the charger knows the temperature of the battery.

I want to build a charger with LM338 power regulator. Questions:

1) The charger will be connected to (+) and (-) pins of the battery then?
2) Could i overtake this thermistor and design the charger circuit as this thermistor does not exist?
