I am going through a manual for a system which involves hardware and SW. It talks about ensuring that the software gain must be equal to the hardware gain. Not sure what this means and what is the meaning of software gain.

 

OK, which hardware and software? Are you scaling an analog input to a software range?

This makes me think of audio gear, where you’ll have hardware amplification in the preamp, then digital amplification in the DSP software. Whether you’re looking at an audio system or not, it’s probably talking about DSP.
