How to select the transformer VA rating for an application with respect to power cconsumption.

Actually it is pretty basic, on the surface at least. Voltage and current you need to feed with the power supply.

Transformers don't use much wattage themselves. They transform voltages and currents, and do so very efficiently.

 

If you know the VA of the machine then choose one with the same VA or higher. If you know the real power (P) consumed by the machine and its power factor (pf) then you can calculate VA by:

VA=P/pf

Again choose a transformer with he same or higher VA rating.

 

VA rating = RealPower/pf

 

VA rating = RealPower/pf
