Regulating volume with potentiometers issue

Hello folks,

so, I bought two 50k pots so I can adjust volume using them, but my issue is that when I succesfully connect it:
1. the sound quality becomes much worse
2. I can't get the volume to 0, turning the wiper to the very end just makes the volume weaker
Is there anything I can do to fix that? Thanks in advance

Have you checked the contacts on the pots? If the ribbon on the slider is dirty, that would certainly mess things up. Also, be sure that the pots are rated correctly for your sound system. To little or too much resistance could certainly mess with the volume.

IMO, pots don't really carry good audio quality. I'd stick with something that utilizes VoIP.

And are you using linear or logarithmic pots? You usually use logarithmic pots in audio circuitry.

And if that is the amp output, I doubt that is the best way to be doing this.

Any attenuator circuit is a study in proportions. If your pots don't actually go to zero point zero ohms, you have made a voltage divider. If the load on the output is very high impedance, that little bit of resistance on the zero end of the pots will be significant. Think in terms of, "voltage divider" while considering the impedance of the next stage (after the pots). Then measure the pots at their zero end. I believe you will find the error there.
