Hi all
I am trying to design a rectifying circuit using a diode bridge and a capacitor, the input voltage is AC 2-7V max, the output is a little random its power from a moving coil and the movement of the coil is not periodic, can anyone suggests how I would calculate the capacitor I should be using the smoothing part of the rectifier?

Kind Regards

1. what moving coil? something with spec sheet or DIY? are you sure of power requirements?
2. what kind of input is 2-7VAC? that is 350% change which is extremely inconsistent. What is the source?
3. what kind of rectifier? regular diodes? they have Vf of about 0.7V. in bridge configuration two diodes are forward biased so you get 1.4V drop just on diodes. its such low AC input, not much is left to power that coil

The answer depends on the load, the current drawn by it and its acceptable ripple. The answer also depends on the frequency of the coil output, which I assume is variable. But you still need to know, along with the waveform.
