Hi

I have a Panasonic camcorder model :nv-rx33, still working.
The viewfinder works perfectly.
The viewfinder has a Sony CXA1854AR IC.
The LCD model is Sony LCX005BKB8.

The viewfinder is connected to the camera by a 7 wire connector.
Wires 6 and 7 are for the back light , the rest are for the video ,the lcd power and so on.
I have the LCD's data sheet, also the viewfinder datasheet.
I'm only an amateur ,so it doesn't help me a lot. but I can provide it to anyone who would like to help.
I would like to use the viewfinder independently, either as a monitor or to make a small video projector.
I'm attaching some photos.
Can someone help me please.
Thanks ahead.
Tzvyl

Personally, I think you'd be ahead by selling your camera on ebay and then buying something that meets your needs more directly than a repurposed or hacked LCD. It might help someone that needs a camcorder and save you a difficult project that, in the end, results in something you can probably buy easily. (I've never bought such a thing, so I admit ignorance in this area.)

The camera works but is dismantled ,so I can't sell it.

Can you do embedded work, write software ?

What do you want to use the display for ? What will it interface to ?

I want to connect it to composite video from a raspberry pi
I already did something like that with a sony crt viewfinder

The camera must have a composite video controller in it.

Regards, Dana.
You are right, but I want to connect the viewfinder to composite video without the camera.
I did it with crt viewfinders ,my problem is that lcd viewfinders are more tricky.
Thanks

But you need a controller, or you do a custom design, like FPGA.
So why not reuse the controller in camera, if you can get it
off the board. And the camera controller must also have the
pre-requisite analog on it to create the composite video signal.

Regards, Dana.

That's the problem. I can't separate it from the camera.
So I'm looking for someone who understands the wiring of this viewfinder or just the lcd's wiring , in order to use them independently.

I found a full datasheet here -

http://www.digchip.com/datasheets/parts/datasheet/453/CXA1854AR-pdf.php

The problem you face is unless you use same controller, the interface is
involved to implement, timing, firmware if you have to create your own
replacement. That being said actual digital part of interface is simple
shift register interface. Its the composite video part that gets a little
involved.

Deep dive into controller could possibly allow you to select another controller.

Epson makes a number of controllers -

https://global.epson.com/products_and_drivers/semicon/products/display_controllers/

Good luck, a challenging design.

Hi hmm_still_thinking
I did not find a video controller , but I have the wiring for the whole unit of the viewfinder , not the LCD alone.
If you have the viewfinder with this LCD , the wiring is : pin1 : composite video input ,pins 3,5 : ground , pin 4 : 5v . I don't connect pin 2 . pins 6,7 are for the LCD's backlight, pin 6 - I'm not so sure ,I think it has to do with control over backlight . pin 7 -probably 6v .
You can connect it to any player with composite video output, you'll have to supply 5v to pin 4 and ground to pins 3 and 5
I have numbered the pins in picture "evf 1" on my original post.
Anyhow , I'm just an amateur , but if you have any questions please fill free to ask.
Yours Tzvyl.
