Just suppose that a PC has a faulty PSU. You have spare PSU's but they are not identicle to your faulty unit.
What checks would you have to make before replacing the faulty unit with one of the spares and how would you justify the answer? :blink:

 

Make sure the wattage of the new psu is at least equal to the wattage of the psu that you are going to replace. Secondary effects like ps variation aren't as important as the wattage.

i agree with battousai about checking the wattage, but i can't reconcile the idea of you having a spare psu yet it's not identical in specs with your faulty one. maybe your extra psu is not for your present set up. just curious

You should have no problem with replacing the supply as long as the replacement has at least the same rating as the old. Using a supply with more capability can't hurt.

Unless you have spares on hand, I find that a new case + supply generally costs less than a new PSU. That might be the most cost-effective solution.
