I don't use this powertool much,and have just noticed it has one of the lugs missing. I would be grateful if someone could let me know the correct name for them?

Oh right,thanks for your reply. I'm thinking the battery charger wasn't charging because of the missing terminal,causing the power tool to work briefly. Switch it off,and back on again,it'll work briefly

 

Looking at the pcb,it looks like some corrosion on the tracks from the battery.

 

That stuff may also be solder flux.
It is more likely that the power source for the charger is not providing enough power. If the TS has a meter able to read voltage it will be simple to measure the terminals voltage without the battery connected, and then with the battery connected. The voltage with the battery connected and charging should be greater than the battery voltage not connected.
