My A-level dt project involves of toaster and a kettle needing to run of a single plug in the mains. I am worried to just join them together in parallel due to the danger of the high currents involved. Will a transformer be required to change the current and voltage for each unit? What would be the best way of solving this problem?

What country are you in,

Ideally you would use separate plugs for each item, as they will take different currents and will have different fuse ratings.

 

How much current do the toaster and the kettle need?
How much current can one wall socket provide safely?
