I am considering buying the Xantrex Grid tie 5.0 inverter

Here i see that there is a row which says Line Power Factor (Above 20% rated power) and all of them seem to achieve pf of 0.99 or above

In this context, i have a couple of questions
1. How can they predict 0.99 when they dont know the nature of loads(inductive or how inductive/capacitive) that would be connected
2. There are also some pfc correctors in the market htat you can plug it into a socket and the pf would be corrected, how do those work ?

Hi,
The link below does pf correction for SMPS system, the output is DC. I am wondering how dynamic/active AC power factor correction can be made for an AC in/out circuit without any intermediate DC stage involve. An example of passive PFC is given in the all about circuits book

but if we need to do this dynamically based on the pf distortion created by an unknown reactive load how is it accomplished.
