could anyone help me in finding out the number of poles of a tachometer( this is attached to a dc motor).any help will be appreciated.

 

The number of pulses per revolution will give you the number.

 

What is the output of the tachometer, digital (pulses) or analog?

 

the output of the tachometer is a sin wave

 

Can you provide a part number for the tach? Maybe we can find a datasheet for it.

How many peaks on the sine wave per rotation? Turn the shaft by hand and use a meter.
