Dana,
Thanks for the detailed explanation of the Cypress chip. I will have to look into this more as it seems like a highly versatile way to do many tasks in imitation of analog electronics. I have not heard of a PSOC. What does that stand for?

Here is a You Tube video of Binaural Beats that lasts for 90 minutes (!) and they say your brain produces Alpha waves from 14Hz through Theta waves to Delta waves from 4Hz to 0.1Hz, then it comes back up to Theta's 7Hz.

I listened to some of them and it had no effect on me like Snake Oil.

You just haven't tried the right snake oil. You need the good stuff. I know a guy that can hook you up!

The board you should consider is -

https://www.cypress.com/documentati...oc-5lp-prototyping-kit-onboard-programmer-and

1581769859854.png

This does debug and has a reasonable amount of I/O. There are other more expensive boards
that pin out all I/O.

The board has 2 5LP parts on it, the snap off on left is for debug/programming, the right side
is the target device. When finished with dev many folks snap off the left and toss that out.
But it is a 5LP, with very little I/O. But you can reprogram the firmware in it to use as a boot
loader board. Only drawback, besides very limited I/O, is no debug. But some designs don't
need much I/O. You can use the overall board to first dev a project for the snap off portion,
save that project, then do the target side dev. After that snap off and program the snap off.

Cheap way of getting 2 high end parts on a board.

You can also use the snap off as a general purpose programmer -

The Monroe institute has been using the Binaural Beat system for years. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemi-Sync and https://hemi-sync.com/research-papers/the-hemi-sync-process/ . They make CDs offering music combined with low-level BB for meditation, pain relief, etc.
Looking at the Wiki link you gave allowed me to find a similar thing like I had and talked about in an earlier post, the Mind Machine. The link to it shows they are selling them now as a complete system, back in the day they were sold separately. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_machine

The video I found says it begins with alpha waves that make you have increased focus and awareness, not get sleepy. After 40 minutes it gets into the Delta waves that it says gives you a deep sleep. It did nothing.

My perfect hearing discovered the problem. They make a mistake with feeding the stereo audio.
They say the left ear begins at 114Hz and the right ear begins at 100Hz. But they play it in mono, not stereo.
Then the beats appear in both ears instead of being made in your brain.
Then the beats are amplitude modulation of the tones, causing the tones to flutter in level, not producing the beat frequency.

Dear Audioguru, I have found some of the Monroe Institute recordings to be very effective in getting me into altered states, especially the early ones done by Bob Monroe, before he died. Results really depend on the individual. I suggest low or no lighting, stereo headphones and a relaxed state with no distractions. A comfy chair or bed (if you are using the CD for sleep) is helpful.

I'm sure they would appreciate knowing that they have a mono recording out there. Also, some of the early recordings did have some wow and flutter. To double check, if you have a scope, feed the left and right preamp or speaker audio into the X & Y inputs and check the Lissajous pattern. If the audio is only a modulated 45 deg. line, it's mono. If it is more or less circular, it's stereo.

Other individuals & companies picked up on this tech and created their own devices with variable results. Some early LED goggles that flashed LEDs at brainwave frequencies, used this same technique, along with binaural beat sound in headphones.

If this topic is of interest to you, Google "Brain hacking".

Regards,
Ivan

I don't have sleep or mental problems.
I think this thread is going on the wrong track. Binaural Beats do not use frequencies that are below what can be heard. Instead they beat frequencies together that can be heard and can be played by headphones. The difference between the frequencies in each ear create the actual beat to be created by your brain. Since the video I found is wrong then I have never tried real Binaural Beats.
