I'd be careful going down that path. I fully believe there are drugs that will enhance your brainpower, but the brain is a very sensitive organ. Nothing you want to screw with casually.

Ever seen the movie "Limitless". I loved it. It was right on target for this subject.

Are you "Stare at Stuff"? Just curious.

As bill said the brain is very sensetive and mysterious. Even though I've fought depression on numerous occasions I would never take anything of those drugs like paxel, zoloft, etc.... We just don't know enough about what they do to be messing with the brain. It takes over a hundred years really to see the effects of a drug. We pump em on the market with a couple years testing. Thats why you see drug recalls and bans from drugs that have been around 50 years and sometimes as short as a couple months. Then to top that were selling actual narcotics under the label as herbal enhancements and stuff like that your dealing with designer drugs or extracts with little FDA oversight. Just eat more omega-3 fatty acids. Eat more salmon, tuna, etc.... All Seafood is Brainfood!

I also believe that learning new stuff, and to do math on a regular basis is like exercise for the brain.

Not to forget using the whole body, at least once a day walk fast in a staircase and be breathless. Of course you should be careful if you have a heart condition or something, but I think you know what I mean.

I'd say there is a time and a place for every drug. If one is suffering from extreme depressions it is far better to take a (prescribed) drug than to commit suicide one day. A long time ago after suffering from panic attacks I have been treated with an antidepressant for a limited time, I'm still convinced it was the right decision of the doctor to prescribe it to me. I do, however, completely agree with you that there might be unknown side-effects. So in each case one has to ask the question - is the disorder so bad that it outweighs the risk of taking the drug ?

Regarding this Piracetam stuff - wikipedia tells me that in Germany it is only available on prescription (against dementia). Are you guys talking about taking it just to "boost the brainpower" ? That would be pretty scary... As Bill Marsden has said, don't screw with the brain.

I fear that in some countries the pressure to succeed may be driving young people to take desperate measures. This may seem justified at the time, especially to young males who tend not to fully appreciate their mortality. If they did, I think we would not see so much consumption of alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful drugs.

I just hope that this will not eventually result in increased incidences of neurodegenerative conditions like multiple sclerosis or parkinson's disease. Problems of this kind have already surfaced as a result of people using so-called "designer drugs".

agreed, and that would be like the 18 year old kids popping Viagra at the clubs. Really useless.

It will and you'll see 1000's of other cases with permenant effects. But right now I'd say the 2 scariest things on the market are that fake pot stuff, and those bath salts. Its really scary who organized the designer drug people are. They just order the drugs straight from a mylasian labratory. There are entire forums setup for this stuff and experimenting with them. Seek one out and read some of the comments and your mind will be blown people are willing to just try some of this crap.

Please tell me that I have not poisoned my elderly Auntie with what I sent her for Christmas.

I suppose this is the latest craze. Alternative herbal I had heard of, but bath salts! Do people bathe in it, drink it, smoke it, or put it where they don't worry about the hole in the ozone layer?

Edit: None of the above, it seems, Google tells me that it goes up the nose. What a sad old world.

Smelling salts are to be inhaled. Bath salts go in a full bathroom and supposedly relax you, making an experience to long for.

Never tried it.

The last time I took a bath (not a shower), I played with a battleship in the tub.

The whole bath salt thing (I've also heard the term "plant food" used) is to legally protect the seller. These chemicals were never intended for use as bath salt or plant food and are nothing like the bath salt that you would buy at the chemist. The chemicals (until they get banned) are legal to sell, but they can't be advertised as a drug or medicine by the seller, because they would need comply with laws regarding medicines. They can't be sold as food either, similar thing. So they are advertised on the seller's website as something not intended for human consumption.

The bathsalts they are refering to are not real bath salts. They are a seriously dangerous designer drug people buy at the headshop or circle K as bath salts, then they snort it. From what I have read its like really deadly acid/PCP crazy drug that makes people hear stuff thats not there, and litterally go nuts. Its like the old refer madness stuff, or old acid warning videos that you'll go crazy the rest of your life......but real. STAY AWAY FROM THESE BATH SALTS THEY ARE DEADLY! Both the fake pot and bath salts are having a really big problem in highschools and the military because drug tests don't detect them.

I've heard that bath salts are like acid, but it's always a bad, scary, depressing trip. Despite the fact they give you a bad trip, they're very addictive, so the user goes back to it. Then, one day the trip doesn't end. You stay permanently on a bad trip until you kill yourself. I got this info from the media, so who knows how accurate it is, but I'm not going to go on a mission to find out.

As far as the drug in the first post, it's probably BS. placebo. if you read the ingedients its probably a bunch of trendy sounding things like "ginko" and "jojoba extract". just a random hogepodge of FDA approved plants.

The movie mentioned "limitless" - I thought it was good.

I actually researched it on the designer drug forums for my local quicky mart owner. Its basically what you said but much worse because the voices and "Bad Trip" stuff stays even after the drugs worn off. People are reporting still hearing voices and having paranoia months after stopping usage of the bath salts. They are illegal many places like here. Unfortunetaly the fake pot still is legal.

Piracetam does work.

Piracetam improves Short Term Memory (including Spatial Memory Christoffersen, G. R. Effects of piracetam on the performance of rats in a delayed match-to-position task. Prog Nueropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry. 22(1):211-228, 1998., an aspect of Short Term Memory that involves remembering one’s position in space).

Did you end up taking an attack dose? I've read a little bit about it and understood that there needs to be a first attack does along with taking choline with it to work more effectively. This is from research I have done on it though. Personally, I take it so don't give up on it. I usually get it from smartdrugsforthought.com for personal reasons although it can be purchased elsewhere. It is taken with choline daily remember. Piracetam stimulates a neuroreceptor, acetylcholine. Choline creates the neuroreceptor. I don't think it is like the "limitless" deal. If anything is like it, it would have to be adderall that will screw up your brain overtime. Adderall depletes serotonin and can allow you to lose your libido over time. Anyways I hope this helps you with your question OP.

I've heard a lot about these bath salts but I thought they were to imitate the meth/mdma/speed family? Crazy! I don't see why people would want to ingest something that isn't regulated for human consumption, I liken it to drinking bleach or eating the plastic/paper wrappings that food comes in. Intense :S
