Do it! My first trip was on a Westpac Navy deployment in the 1970's. This part hasn't changed too much.
The trip up the north shore mountain jungle is super cool.

About those lame cookies. I read an article a while back saying that airplane food doesn't taste so well mainly because the aircraft's noise messes with our sense of smell and taste ... so next time I had to fly I wore noise-cancelling earphones and whaddayaknow! ... the taste of things improved significantly.
I discovered this "trick" way back in the '90s.
Most importantly, it allowed me to take frequent long flights without landing with a headache and minimal jet lag.
