Picture this...

Didn't get a change to go today (a mile or so from the house) so no pictures but here's what it looks like.
Kind of reminds me of the Walleye run around here. Every year people in waders with their poles venture out to stand in freezing cold water and catch fish. I don't have the patience myself, but it's quite the spectacle as you cross over the bridges in the shallow areas. Traded a guy at work a couple tools for some fresh fish a few years back.

Habitat: The Pacific smelt spends most of its life in the ocean, migrating up rivers, including the Columbia and its tributaries, to spawn. The eggs attach to gravelly, woody, or sandy substrate of the river bottoms, but upon hatching the juvenile smelt get swept downstream back to the ocean.
