Personally, I like the second better.

I have thought about this kind of issue in photography for a while and it came up with @Yaakov 's Crane pic. I know exactly what he means by "I'll go back and do that again" [I'm paraphrasing]. I have said the same thing many, many times. I'm not going to say with certainty what he meant, but I think he simply meant that he did not get what he was after. I read your comments about the shot and I see your point, but I think, in so many instances, it comes down to, what were you after? That is what I would ask your wife, because both shots are nice and they are different. You know what I mean?

By the way, I spent a little time on the heron shot to get better color, and it’s better, but the bird lives nearby so I will get a better shot.

It’s my 65th birthday. I went to my local hangout, an Irish pub down the street from where I live. The bartender had the chef make me a special birthday treat.

The chef made me a birthday “cake”. It was cake wrapped inside a chocolate chip cookie, topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. And I found out that the cake-filled cookie was deep-fried!

Plus, both bartenders gave me a free drinks. There goes the diet

Hard to say.
The sharpness of the first and the grace of the second were my first impressions.

 

@cmartinez just a thought....has your wife ever thought about make a book with her photographs?

I have done several of these. They do take some work with the layout but as gifts, they seem to be appreciated.
