Hello, newbie here,

Doing a little project with a buddy, ran into a problem. The circuit is not detected by USB at all.

Figured it should come up when plugged in as an unrecognized device or something.

It's not bootloaded yet, since we can't get it connected...

The circuit scheme is this:

This is a circuit of a controller that controls floppy drives. You can then play MIDI music on these floppy drives, it's pretty neat.

The few things that come to mind, that we're not sure about are these:

We connected all ground wires to one negative wire(black) of a power supply unit.

We also connected both voltage wires to one 5 voltage wire(red). Voltage is showing ok when tested.

The bootloader needs to be programmed using a serial connection.

So if I understand correctly, we need an additional development board to bootload the pic?
Or can we do this through some usb-to-serial adapter?

You need an additional programmer to load the bootloader into the pic.

PICKIT II is OK for this. You need to use it just once, so ask your friends if they have one you can borrow for 30 seconds.
