Hi, I've been trying to figure out the cause of overshoot. I searched it but all I got was 'due to inductance' or 'due to resonance'. Are there any intuitive explanations?

Thanks

The term 'Overshoot' may apply in many situations. To get a meaningful explanation you need to be specific about the situation in which overshoot is observed.

Overshoot in a system that is characterized by a second order differential equation, which includes the RLC circuit and the spring-mass-damper system mechanical system, is due to a lack of damping. Damping contributes to the value of one of the coefficients in the characteristic equation and leads to a system characterization of underdamped, critically damped, or overdamped.
