Hi guys,

I wanted to open a laptop battery and a laptop charger without damaging the case. I was thinking of applying heat. Does anyone know up to what temperature is safe to go? What temperature li-ion batteries and electrolytic capacitors can reach? Alternatively can you suggest another way of opening them?

They are usually glued up solid and I think you'll struggle to open them without some damage.

Or ultrasonically welded but the effect is much the same.

 

Often the only way is to use a dremel circular cutter carefully along the seam, going in a few hundreths of a mm at a time to separate the 2 halves of the case without damaging whats inside.
