Good point studiot. Those old VLSI chips I have use a BeO substrate and the dust from it is lethal eventually. The epoxy cases and such are not good to breath either and who knows what all else can cause problems.

 

does a 555 have a die? I just opened one and all there was is a white square.




Now I got to go take something else apart....

That is the metal plate where the die is set. If you peel it you can see the die.

It is a good process for preserving the die intact, except for the smell. The plastic is more "workable" after being torched to incandescence.

Hell yea. It smells soo bad, but I burned it on the garden and I was using a mask and security glasses

There is a trick to minimize the smell. Burn them in a gas stove, well inside the flame. The flame will burn the black smoke.
