What is so strange about it?

In the left diagram, as seen by the source, R1 and R4 are in series with the parallel combination of R2 and R3. Done. Move on.

Well for one thing he was implying that the question was different than just the usual parallel and series explanation that you are giving. If it is so then so be it, but if not then i'd like to know what was really being asked. Your reply is the simplest possible and that's usually correct, but because of the way he asked it i was probing for other possibilities.

May or may not mean anything. Remember that he's only gotten a single e-mail saying that there is a response and that there might be more. He almost certainly has other classes on his plate and may be focusing on one of them. May also have already started his weekend and won't do anything school related until afterward. We don't know.
