A Father Accidentally Shut Down His Town's Whole Internet in an Effort to Limit His Kids' Screentime
In this case, the dad in question deployed the device in the hopes of prying his social-media-addicted children away from the grips of their devices. When later questioned by a government official, the man apparently admitted that he only wanted to cut off the connectivity to his house at night, between the hours of midnight and 3 a.m.—probably so his kids would put the phones down and just go to bed already.

In June of 2021, someone at Jump used a third-party domain broker to approach Merryman and offer $2,500 for the name. The latter rebuffed the request, saying—perhaps in jest—that the price was a "firm US$50000."
...
"Nope, sorry, I changed my mind. This was too easy, I'm either leaving a lot of money on the table or it is a scam. Either way, no sale," Merryman wrote in a message reproduced in court filings. "If you want to make a reasonable offer, then you are encouraged to do so."

Jump then pulled out the big guns. The company's lawyers warned Merryman he was in breach of contract and that he had to honor the message saying he would sell for $50,000. But Merryman wanted no part of it, in part because he didn't want to lose his email address.

Cop in Hot Water After Handcuffing EMT Just Trying to Care for Patient
A Rochester police officer is on desk duty after he was caught on camera forcefully handcuffing an emergency medical technician who’d reportedly bumped his squad car with her ambulance door just outside a hospital.
https://www.whec.com/rochester-new-...te-with-emt-in-ambulance-bay/6526199/?cat=565
The incident happened on Monday. The ambulance bay in front of the emergency room is typically reserved for ambulances only but the investigator was parked there, planning to go inside for a case. Sources tell News10NBC that’s when the EMT from Monroe Ambulance got out to unload the patient and hit the police car with her door.
The investigator asked for identification but the EMT was intent on getting her patient inside first. She kept moving with the man on a stretcher and when she was at the check-in desk, she was approached by the investigator, her arm pulled behind her back and cuffed before forcefully being taken outside to a police car.

https://www.kptv.com/2022/07/27/new-law-help-get-ac-units-into-apartments-backfires-some-renters/

Senate Bill 1536 was passed this year to loosen restrictions on air conditioning units in apartments. But the broad language in the law allows landlords to ban window A/C units for numerous reasons. For example, landlords and property managers can ban those units if they can damage buildings, cause safety issues, or block necessary access from the apartment. All of which hasn’t been a problem at the Haworth Terrace apartments until Senate Bill 1536 became law. In fact, there are already structures in place on the exterior of apartment units to hold a window A/C unit.

“For all the trouble we go through to pass this legislation and there are too many loopholes and ridiculous loopholes for it to be effective,” McGrew said,
Our governing agency recently notified us that we were out of compliance with the HUD standards for units that had AC window units blocking the only secondary means of egress from rooms. For households in which their window unit prevents egress, this violation was deemed an “Exigent Health and Safety deficiency” under HUD’s standards requiring immediate correction. As a result, HAYC immediately notified tenants that they would need to remove their window units but could still use an air conditioning floor unit. These rules are also consistent with Oregon’s permissible rules under SB 1536. For any residents who have not complied with HUD’s rules, we have continued to work with them and granted extensions for their time to comply given the heat events we are forecasted to experience.

She tried to return a lost credit card. Why did Detroit police accuse her of stealing it?
Judge calls prosecution 'absurd and ridiculous and wrong,' tosses charges
For four months, Sandra fought to clear her name. In October, the case went to a jury trial where—finally—her nightmare came to an end.

“This is unbelievable to me,” said an exasperated Judge Paul Cusick of Wayne County Third Circuit Court. “No trier of fact—even in the light most favorable to the prosecution—could ever think that Ms. Wilson is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Before the case could go to the jury, Judge Cusick threw it out.

“Absurd and ridiculous and wrong,” he bellowed. “And this was not a thorough investigation.”
Never talk to the police if arrested or detained.

‘Violated, bullied’: HOA makes disabled Mt. Juliet couple remove wheelchair ramp

“Lyle tripped on the ramp, and when the policeman came to help him up because I can’t get him up, he saw that the wheelchair ramp was in disrepair,” said Nancy.

The next week, the Mt. Juliet Police Department’s nonprofit youth program funded and organized efforts to build the Hursts a new ramp.

“It was beautiful,” Nancy said.

However, a letter from Sentry Management on behalf of the Cedar Creek Commons HOA soon followed. The letter, dated Dec. 19, 2022, said in part that the ramp was installed without permission and that it was blocking the sidewalk and a parking spot.
