Hello all, I am new to All About Circuits
and I am new to microcontroller field.
Now I want to start with microcontroller learning.
I have finalised 89c51 and 89s51 amongst various ICs

Now please tell me which IC should I choose as a beginner
and what are the major differences between these two...

Did you consider PICs or AVRs as possible microcontrollers to explore?

Choose 89s51 because it has ISP capability.
i.e. you can program the chip by just connecting some wires from the parallel port.

 

Kind of hard to find parallel port on PC these days.

Choose AT89C5131 instead. Basically a 8051. Program code can be downloaded to the chip via USB using a free software by Atmel called Flip. No additional hardware needed.
