While the bel is a unit naturally scaled for power, another logarithmic unit has been invented to directly express voltage or current gains/losses, and it is based on the natural logarithm rather than the common logarithm as bels and decibels are. Called the neper, its unit symbol is a lower-case “n.”


Is "n" really used anywhere nowadays?

Suggested correction:
1) its unit symbol is "n" or more commonly Np.
2) its unit symbol is Np


Np is a standard unit symbol (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neper)

 

I'd recommend something like:

its units symbol is Np (though the symbol n has been used and may still be encountered).

 

I have never heard about the Neper! The more you know...
