need assistance designing an alarm that uses earbuds to wake me up without deafening me.

i dont have a digital clock. would a watch work? could i perhaps do something far more stupid? i have another idea that uses a 9v to shock me awake. which idea would be more impressive? which would be easiest? i will eagerly await your response.
