Hello,

I have replaced my old PC : https://uk.hardware.info/product/125474/hp-workstation-z210-kk762ea/specifications
With a new one with a faster procesor and more memory and an 512 Gb M.2 SSD : https://uk.hardware.info/product/340427/hp-z240-j9c19et/specifications
I moved my datadrive (an 2 TB drive) to the new PC and made it dual boot with openSUSE linux:

Hola Bertus,

Congratulations. In two weeks I will probably be buying a new desktop to replace my old office's PC with Win XP.

Is your SSD dedicated exclusively to both OSs and other programs? Does it get written occasionally only?

In actual practice, is it possible to avoid any frequent continuous writing as Chrome is said to do all the time by moving something to the HDD?

Interested to heard.

Hello,

The SSD is mounted on the motherboard using a M.2 slot.
On the SSD there is now windows 10 and the linux operating system.
The data is stored on the toshiba 2 TB harddisk.
I use Firefox as browser and switched of cache.
As I will mainly use the linux, I will hardly see the windows 10.
The windows 10 will be used for programs that will not run under WINE in linux.

So, you're basically wasting at least 4/5ths of the space on the SSD by not using it? I wouldn't be too afraid of wearing out the SSD. They are highly reliably these days.

One thing I do is make simlinks to the SSD for folders with files that require fast, frequent access. This way, I can use both drives -- optimizing the speed for the files that need it, and using the lower-cost drive for bulk (mostly archived) data.
