I am looking for a circuit that can amplifier from a microphone signal to a 0 to 5 volt signal, It would be nice to just be able to amplifier the low frequency sounds (bass) and ignore the high frequency.

Is there such circuit that is well designed for this application? If so, what kind of circuit is it calls?

What I have in my mind is to use a high voltage gain Op-amp with a Low pass filter in the input. Use a full-wave rectifier and a bypass capacitor at the output to smooth out the signal.

What kind of microphone? Electret, dynamic, does the mic require phantom power?

There are lots of different types of microphones out there.

The low-pass filter is no big deal.

I have no idea why you'd want to rectify the output, though - unless you just wanted some kind of VU meter output?

 

I want to convert a microphone signal (the microphone that doesn't required power, like the one people use for their computer) to a readable value for the micro-controller A/D port.

for example, I would like to light up LEDs with the bass beat.
